Aural Only: Lady Gaga & Beyonce

Beyonce, Lady Gaga, new singles, songs, music, Video Phone, Telephone, collaboration, Fame: The Monster, I Am... Sasha Fierce, featured, featuring, listen

When I heard that Beyonce's "Video Phone" video would include a cameo by Lady Gaga, it made me feel a little more optimistic about her poor single choice. Personally, I thought this song was one of the worst on disc two of I Am… Sasha Fierce. It's tragic that it's being released instead of "Radio", or far superior bonus tracks like "Why Don't You Love Me?" or "Smash Into You". But alas, I'm sure the video will include plenty of delicious product placement?

When I heard that Beyonce would be appearing on Lady Gaga's "Telephone", I seriously didn't believe what I was hearing. And I mean that in a bad way. It's kind of a terrible idea for them to simultaneously put out singles that feature one another, especially when both songs are about phones.

Now that the two songs have finally arrived, it's a bit of an overload for the pop divas. Lady Gaga and Beyonce's contributions to one another's songs are decent, but they feel entirely superfluous and unnecessary. I would have preferred releasing a solo version of "Telephone", followed by a "remix" with Beyonce. Though "Video Phone" actually stuck to that formula, I still don't think Gaga managed to make the song any better. And isn't that the point of these sort of collaborations?

  1. God, Radio is the best song on the entire cd. I love Halo and think that it’s an amazing song, but Radio was just amazing. Video Phone was a decent song, but not single worthy I agree.

  2. “Video Phone” sounds like every other Beyonce song…I didn’t even get to the Lady Gaga part of the song, I just stopped it. Boring…
“Telephone” would actually be a better song without Beyonce. Her part just doesn’t sync up well with Lady Gaga’s.
This wasn’t the smartest collaboration…I mean their voices don’t sync well, not to mention that their styles are WILDLY different…

  3. wait what? Bad Romance is just starting to hit more and more radio stations and get popular. WHY would she release another song? She did that to Love Game and Paparazzi. She isn’t letting the songs get popular like Poker Face and giving them time to be in the spotlight before going to the next song. I don’t get it

  4. Never liked Video Phone. Even Lady GaGa couldn’t make me like that song. I personlly thing Scared of Lonely is the best song but not single worthy. Smash Into You and Radio would have been great choices.
And Telephone was ok, but not great.

  5. i liked videophone, and even though i don’t like lady gaga, i think she added a bit of fun to it. it definitely shouldn’t have been a single over something like scared of lonely or radio, though.

  6. well most ppl said it right…videophone is just an accident. that song just really hurts my ears and i can listen to almost everything. i liked telephone just because i love the upbeat feeling like you just let your head loose and jump around and swing your arms like no one cares. and even though beyonce and gaga have two completely different styles, i like how they blend them. its like when you put anyone up against christina aguilera. even though they are different you can learn to harmonize and bring stuff together. and apparently gaga knows how to put music out there…all her f’ing songs are hits and even though they are played out i still jam out to them all the time. she is ear crack.

  7. both of these songs would be on top of the charts… why are girls always hating on other girls???

  8. Videophone is okay. I’m really just waiting to see it’s video and that will probably change my preconception on the song. I love Telephone. As for Radio, i’m sure we will see a video soon. Beyonce is planning to re-(re)release her album eventually with videos to all the songs just like she did with B-day.

  9. oh dewitt i think this is the first time i fully i agree with u.
video phone is the only 2 star* rated song from beyonce’s last album on my itunes.
radio is on the other hand is 5*
bad choice for sure, like that Ego song she released, but even worse.
telephone is way better. but it’s silly now that they simultaneously included each other in their songs.

  10. Honestly, they both suck major ass.
On Gaga’s song, Beyonce’s part sounds like some amateur YouTube mash-up. Don’t go well together at all.
Beyonce’s song just bored me, even with Gaga’s parts.
These two need to steer clear of each others tracks from now on..
