Aural Only: Katy Perry

Gather around if you’ve ever felt like a plastic bag! Katy Perry has an uplifting anthem with your name written all over it. The singer’s third single from Teenage Dream encourages listeners to embrace their individuality, and she’s delivering the message while shooting fireworks out of her boobs. You can’t make this shit up, folks!

With that said, the video for “Firework” isn’t just about Katy Perry‘s breasts. It also tackles issues such as body image, living with cancer and same-sex crushes, thereby making it impossible to mock without feeling like a terrible person. So what do you think–will you be voting for Katy on tomorrow’s Weekly Top Ten countdown?

  1. I love this song. It was never one of my faves on the album, but it has really grown on me. I thought for sure she would release Last Friday Night, Hummingbird Heartbeat, or Peacock as her next single. All 3 of those songs would be monster hits.

But this is a nice little gem – “g” rated and lots of fun.

  2. Good song – this generations “Beautiful”.

The video is great. I love how it tackles issues of body image, cancer, homosexuality… and being a magician.

  3. I like the song and the concept but im sure the director could’ve done much better with the “fireworks” placement… it’s kinda lame.

  4. Holy crap! The least annoying Katy Perry song ever! I actually… *gasp* like it. Cute video, too. And I’m SO glad that for once you can actually hear her singing clearly. Her voice is pretty good.

  5. I usually don’t comment on the songs featured on this blog, but man that is an awesome song! And a great video too! We need some uplifting songs like this right now!

  6. I, being a big Katy Perry fan, am addicted to this song. On a side-note, Katy is the only girl I’d go straight for.

  7. this is absolutely my favourite song at the moment. it’s got such a great message which i think is really needed at the moment – especially after the teen suicides
    IT’S JUST AMAZING

and she looks hot in it

  8. WOW! Great song, great video (it was made in Budapest, Hungary which is one of the most beautiful cities in the world) and great lyrics!

  9. What with her first singles being “Ur so Gay” and ” I Kissed A Girl” her record for being non homophobic or exploitative of homosexuality was looking really sad. This music video restores some of my faith in her. I dont care about her super poppy stuff but i actually thought this was a good song. Great message and very inspiring video. Makes ya feel good! Ima go have a wank to this video now. 😀

  10. Best song on her album, and a wonderful video. Fucking love it, but I’m also a sucker for violins, haha.

  11. Nothing else to say here. She’s in for the countdown this weekend. Not her best song, but I prefer this single to Peacock which by the way is already on the Dance Club Play Billboard chart.

  12. I absolutely love this song. It really keeps my spirits up. I also think that its pretty rad that Katy Perry dedicated this video to the “It Gets Better Project.” 🙂

  15. I love katy and this is the reason why, she is an amazing woman. This along with her the katy perry project just had me in tears.

  16. I do think the way they did the fireworks could have been SOOO much more artistic.

Such a gorgeous video and beautiful song, just could have been a whole lot better, i mean, fireworks shooting from her chest? really?

  17. Are u people smoking crack or snorting too many poppers? This song is horrible, maybe the plastic bag will float over your head and suffocate you
