Aural Only: Katie Melua

Why aren’t you listening to Katie Melua‘s new album The House? There really isn’t a good answer to that question. Unless you’re about to tell me that you are listening to her new album. The William Orbit-produced set is one of the better releases of 2010, and it’s a shame that it’s been essentially ignored on a stateside level.

Recently, Melua unveiled the music video for her second single “A Happy Place”, the follow-up to her equally brilliant track “The Flood”. While the clip doesn’t necessarily fit my vision of the song, it’s certainly got a fun and quirky vibe to it all. Except not in the “Look at me! I’m so fun and quirky!” kind of way. Check it out, and let me know what you think!

  1. It’s a brilliant album. But ofcourse it has been ignored, we’ve been so dumbed down by everything, people have no appreciation of anything decent anymore, music is now fast food. And gay guys are the worst consumers of it, mind you – Gaga is “art”, for christ’s sake!? Katie reminds us that some people still doing something interesting, at least.

  2. Good song, but she really needs to drop the Lady Gaga style and develop one of her own, if there’s anything left over for individuality

  3. How on Earth is this like Gaga?!?!? lol, oh dear. Can we all stop crediting her with everything, when Gaga herself is just a marketing aberration putting recycled images to crap pop dance music?

Go Katie. Gaga wishes she had half her talent.

  4. GaGa does have her talent, she just wants to make money so she doesn’t put all her talent out there. America doesn’t like talent.

I do agree that she doesn’t deserve credit for everything. People have been wearing weird outfits in videos forever. GaGa didn’t start that shit.

  5. this is not gaga, but it is certainly not katie either.
bit weird looks in the video, and the song itself not as good as most of her previous ‘video’ work.

  6. I can see how it’s Gagaesque. Only somewhat. But that’s life, right? Take your experiences, and change them so they’re a part of you. That’s what it looks like she’s done.

    Good song, too.
