Aural Only: jj

There are a million reason why we love Swedish duo jj‘s new song “Let Them”. For starters, the opening lyrics are “Fuck all you hoes, get a grip”, and we appreciate any song that puts hoes in their place. Then there’s the awesome sample of Akon‘s “Right Now (Na Na Na)”, which brings a pop sensibility to the lead singer’s haunting vocals.

Of course, that’s nothing new for jj! The group is heavily influenced by modern hip-hop and R&B, and their repertoire includes piano-based covers of Jeremih‘s “Birthday Sex” and The-Dream‘s “Right Side of My Brain”. Word on the street? They’ll be releasing a new mixtape tomorrow on Christmas Eve! We’re kind of excited… in case you couldn’t figure out by the exclamation point on that last sentence.

  1. They’re really good. I don’t love them, but I like them a lot. I got their No. 2 album out of curiosity and I wasn’t disappointed but I wasn’t blown away either.

But I like them a lot. They’re totally awesome and I’m kind of excited that you mentioned them! 🙂

  2. This song and it’s b-side can be downloaded for free from pitchfork, but they’re not on the new mixtape which is ok but might take some googling to find as the link to it from their labels page doesn’t seem to be woring anymore
