Aural Only: Hurts

Even though our Weekly Top Ten countdown appeared a day later than anticipated, a few of you still managed to get in your suggestions for the next edition. Several readers made a case for “Stay”, the latest single from English synth-pop duo Hurts. We’re still on the fence as to whether it should appear on our charts…

On one hand, it’s extremely well-crafted in a musical sense, and you can tell these handsome fellows know what they’re doing in the studio. However, it kind of reminds me of that awful OneRepublic song “Apologize”. While they don’t necessarily sound the same, I could imagine being just as annoyed if I consistently heard this on the radio. What are your thoughts on this?

  1. They have some really good songs πŸ™‚
This one isn’t bad πŸ™‚ Listen to Devotion feat Kylie Minogue, or The Water πŸ™‚ I love those songs πŸ™‚

  2. This song is good. Different from their previous single. It’s more dramatic and sounds like the type of song you would hear in a musical.

  3. I love this song. Makes me wanna cry and in a good way. The perfect tune for a second chance. The remixes are OK but they don’t have a lot of vocals on them.

  4. I love this track. Grand and tragic and beautifully produced. I’ve been a fan of the last two singles and the whole album is stunning. Aside from the Freemasons mix of Wonderful Life, their mixes haven’t grabbed me much, but the originals are so good, they don’t need to be changed. ONE HUGE VOTE FROM ME!

  5. I would like it more if he could say without you without it coming out withouchu. That entire first part of the song is just chu chu chu. Not bad otherwise though.

  6. And another vote from me. These guys make great music. Not so sure about the song with Kylie because she’s barely there if you hear it. I enjoyed watching this video because of all the depressive theme, but at the same time it was very colorful with all the dancers and their dresses.

  7. Yeah, Wonderful Life was way better (if still hopelessly cheesy), and it also performed much better on the European charts than this did.

  8. This will only last one week in the chart. Sadly, a lot of gay men prefer exploding boobs, skanky hoes and 17 year old girls getting explicit sexual in their videos. I love Hurts and I think they should be heard in American radio, even if it is on Adult Top 40 radio.

  9. I don’t get the hate AT ALL. Hurts are gorgeous, stylish, moody and write killer choruses. Their music is melodramatic and overblown, in the best sense. LOVE!!!

  11. I really love this group & agree with tha majority that Wonderful Life is much better & so is Better Than Love but overall it’s pretty good!!!
