Aural Only: Hunx And His Punx

Hunx and His Punx, music video, You Don't Like Rock N Roll, new single, new song, Gay Songs, album, Ronnie Spector, girl groups, garage rock, John Waters

And now for something completely different. San Francisco band Hunx and His Punx consists of former Gravy Train!!!! member Hunx and some other people who aren't important enough to have their aliases in the band name. Their sound can best be described as queer pop with a dash of '60s girl group and garage rock flavor. Think Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes with a penis. And then put another penis in her mouth.

Now that you've got that lovely image in your mind, let's talk about the group's latest single "You Don't Like Rock N Roll". The music video features the lead singer dancing around in a leopard-print thong and some kind of hot BDSM action, and it's been accurately deemed "a John Waters movie with instruments". This one may not be for everyone, but hopefully the rock nerds out there can appreciate this fine track.

  1. Look at these fucking hipsters.
Honestly, when you put together cute frontmen, a fun video concept, and pop rock, I always want it to work so badly. This just doesn’t. The quality of the music just isn’t there, and to be honest his mustache looks like someone dirty sanchezed him.
If you’re really into 60s girl rock revival, download Jenny Dee & the Deelinquents.

  2. haha I saw gravytrain perform years ago! like back in 2004 maybe, in detroit. entertaining, buttt not really music …. lol

  3. Had to check the calendar. . .
    . . .yep, it’s 2010, not 1980. . .
I think John Waters would pass on these guys. . .
. . .and yer gonna smoke a turd in purgatory for comparing them to the Ronettes!!
    . . .BTW, is Pansy Division still around; they’re 10 times better. . .

  4. Yes, Pansy Division is still around, their last album just came out last year as well as a book and documentary.
I actually do like some of the other Hunx and his Punx tracks I’ve heard, even if his voice does slightly bother me. It sort of works given how youthy/whiny/naive some of the songs are, but… Yeah, no.
On the other hand, the lead was cute when he wasn’t quite as fey biker or mustachey. And as an added bonus you can see his junk in the uncensored edit of Girls’ “Lust for Life” music video.
