Aural Only: Alexis Jordan

We still stand by the belief that Alexis Jordan‘s “Happiness” was the most underrated song of this past summer. While the track failed to make an impact in the US, it still managed to become a top ten hit overseas. Not to mention, it could be heard blasting full volume at nearly any gay club, barbecue or pool party.

But let’s not dwell on the past! Alexis teamed up with hit-makers Stargate for her second single “Good Girl”, and it’s just as good as her last release. The lead up to the chorus is pretty epic, as the young singer wails, “You might mistake me for a heart breaker, ’cause there’s blood on the floor. I’m hoping you will see there’s something good in me, never seen before.”

This type of pop vulnerability is something we’ve come to expect from the likes of Robyn, and Alexis pulls off the naughty-nice duality with very little effort. Our only issue? The timing of this release! The beat makes us want to roll down our car windows and let the wind blow through our hair. And right now, it’s too damn cold for that shit…

  1. It’s very well-produced, and Miss Jordan has a nice voice that you can actually hear, but the lyrics, save for the ones quoted above, are LAME. The entire chorus is “I know I can be a good good girl”. Sounds like something your pet would be saying to you.

  2. Completely agree that “Happiness” is highly underrated. Its only starting to be more appreciated in Australia, where its now sitting just outside of the top 10

  3. Agreed I LOVED Happiness! Her voice is amazing I hope she makes it big this year (doubtful though that this song is the one to do it for her).
