Aural Fixation Special Edition: DJ Earworm

Every year, DJ Earworm gathers up every pop song that hit it big and melds them into one POP OPUS! Here’s his “United States of Pop for 2011 (World Go Boom)”. I haven’t been able to stop playing this in my cubicle, which is bizarre because check out the songs he used:

Adele – Rolling In The Deep
Adele – Someone Like You
Black Eyed Peas – Just Can’t Get Enough
Bruno Mars – Grenade
Bruno Mars – The Lazy Song
Britney Spears – Till The World Ends
Cee Lo Green – F* You
Enrique Iglesias – Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)
Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks
Jennifer Lopez – On The Floor
Jeremih feat. 50 cent – Down On Me
Katy Perry – Firework
Katy Perry – E.T.
Katy Perry – Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)
Lady Gaga – Born This Way
LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem
LMFAO – Sexy and I Know It
Lupe Fiasco – The Show Goes On
Maroon 5 – Moves Like Jagger
Nicki Minaj – Super Bass
OneRepublic – Good Life
Pink – Raise Your Glass
Pitbull – Give Me Everything
Rihanna – S&M
Rihanna – We Found Love

Half of those songs I DESPISE, and yet this mix is like crack to me. Check it out after the jump and let us know what you think.

  1. A very impressive piece of editing, but maybe what this ultimately says is that all the pop hits are pretty much alike.

  2. Really enjoyed this! I love most of those songs, and while they’re obviously much better separately, I enjoyed seeing them put togther creatively 🙂

  3. Its awful. It is just too much doesn’t really fit or flow well. There are parts where it does flow well but for the most part it is too chaotic

  4. Politely put C-R-A P!!! To be exposed to this (music?) day after day IS torture! Old school here, only 3 artists on this list did anything for me this past year and that is Adele, LMFAO and Lady Gaga, the rest i’m walking away from. Where is the DEEP BASS?? I’ve amassed 30 yrs in the clubs, never did drugs, but, listening to this would drive me to it! I DARE you to ask Tom Moulton (or anyone from his generation) what he thinks of this mix! I gave it a shot and i’m wondering how long could any of this last???

  5. Earworm’s good at his craft. My favorite wil always be Blame It On the Pop, but this is quickly becoming a close second. Definitely the most impressive blending job so far — technically, at least. I like that he used more than one song as the melodic backbone this time. The theme also seems more cohesive than past years.

  6. There’s too much of everything wrong in this year’s mix. Why were there three Katy Perry Songs? Why did some of the better songs of the year barely even make it into the mix? Disappointing this year. I hope the next one is better. Until then I’ll listen to the 2010 mix.

  7. so howcum there is no way to play the audio? My window is just a black blank-
but from what I have read that may not be a bad thing.

  8. There’s like two good songs on that whole list.  I totally despise Bruno Mars and I will never understand why Foster the People’s song about a school shooting is even popular.  People need to get their heads checked.  F*cking disgusting tripe.

  9. Such beautiful chaos. For those that like Discordian melodies and events.
I do have to comment that every pop song was basically using the same syncopation… which is why it’s labeled into the pop category since it’s what the mainstream likes.

I have a need now to go through that list and watch every video/song individually.

  10. I love it! He is talented! it’s fun ! great job! cause i’m not talented enough to put it together so Im not gonna knock anyones effort!

  11. It’s 2011 dude. The concept behind the video is to combine all the biggest POP SONGS of 2011 into one video, and that he did. It’s not “The Best Songs Ever According To AGhast” list.

And plus, saying LMFAO did something for you in 2011 pretty much invalidates the rest of your comment.

  12. This should be called the “Waffle House Mix”. Scattered, smothered and covered. And I thought my ADD was bad.

  13. Each year now I eagerly await Earworm’s year-end mashup.  I don’t even
think this year’s should be called a mashup, it’s like he created an
entirely new song out of bits and pieces of the others.  “I got that pop, I got that dance, I got that rock and roll / You can take everything, but you can’t take my soul”– Brilliant!

  14. The Foster the People song is disturbing, all the other kids with the pumped uped up kicks, better run run run, out run my gun, no….
