Are You Excited About Apple’s iPad?

Apple tablet, oversized iPod Touch, iPad, Engadget, new gadgets, shiny pretty things, revolutionary and magical, gaming, devices, computer, technology, music, video, movies

As men, it's almost hardwired into our brains to obsess over new gadgets. And as gay men, we tend to like shiny pretty things. It just so happens that the iPad is both of these things. Rumors of the "Apple tablet" had been floating around for some time now, and today it's finally made its highly anticipated debut. Does it live up to the hype?

Maybe. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has called the product "revolutionary and magical", but one blogger described it as nothing more than an "oversized iPod Touch". Judging from the screen shots that Engadget captured, it looks like it may be a little bit more than the latter. We won't know for sure until we get one in our hands! So who wants to buy us one? I'm not opposed to performing sexual favors…

  1. C’mon… this thing was a complete let down… All it does is run iPhone apps, it doesn’t even run a basic Mac OS, and only has 1-Gig RAM. It’s default resolution is the same size as the iPhone, and the enlarged resolution to use the full screen is only achieved by doubling the dimentions of the pixels of the smaller resolution, with makes everything look very pixelated.
Maybe the Gen-2 iPad will be something worthwhile. But for the suggested cost of around $800 (with a contract – significantly higher without) it’s so not worth it.

  2. Ha ha. I totally don’t keep up with Apple news. I was half expecting to see the old iPad cartoon.

As much of a pain as Microsoft can be sometimes, I’m too set in my ways to switch. I grew up with DOS, damnit! (OK, C64, then DOS.) The whole pretty, touch-screen, buy your music online scene seems unnatural to me.

  3. Looks like a fun way to watch movies, read books and listen to music, if you ask me. I’ve been considering an iPod Touch to supplement my 7-year-old 3rd-gen iPod and 1st-gen Shuffle, but now I will bypass the Touch and go straight for the iPad. By the by, pricing without the contract is *MUCH* cheaper, and you get it 30 days earlier ($499/599/699 for 16/32/64GB versions with Wi-Fi only). Especially considering the number of free Wi-Fi hotspots out there VS AT&T’s rather limited 3G network.

  4. With all the money MH gets from it “customers,” why dont they just buy you one rather then stooping to offering sexual favors for an IPad?
Sure seems like IPod Touch, who took growth hormones. No reason to get it with AT&T, to many free, public or open WiFi areas where you can use it. Most will likely use it at home or work rather than walking down the street carrying a one pound shinny silver IPad.
    Just my three cents

  5. On the Australian TV show the 7PM Project, host Carrie Bickmore described the name as sounding like “some kind of electronic menstruation device” and i’d have to say i thought the exact same thing she did when they revealed the name.
Only reason i’d buy one is if it works as a graphics pad and can be used with photoshop or corel etc.

  6. Bleh. Anything this new iPad can do I can already do on my Palm Pre. Wouldn’t suit our needs at all.
And furfiend, you’re not alone. My first computer was an Atari 400, and I helped a friend program some game in BASIC on his TRS-80.
    Gawds, I suddenly feel old.

  7. i am such an apple FanBoi <3 i have been waiting for this for about 2 years… following the rumor sites and stuff… and no it does not live up to the crazy hype that surrounded it… but it is still wonderful! hit me up on manhunt if you wanna chat about it…. "sobeheartbreaker"

  8. Wish their was a manhunt app for iPad. A guy can’t scroll through profiles on it. Sucks and not in a good way. Dallas in Montana
