Album Review: Erykah Badu

New Amerykah Part Two: Return of The Ankh, Erykah Badu, new album, review, Window Seat, Paul McCartney, Junior M.A.F.I.A., soul, R&B, hip-hop, music, artist, John F. Kennedy

When you strip naked in public and collapse at the same location John F. Kennedy was assassinated, people tend to take notice. Soul music star Erykah Badu demonstrated this with her controversial new music video for "Window Seat", while simultaneously making a statement on the dangers of groupthink.

Unlike a handful of singers appearing on the Billboard charts, Ms. Badu stands as one of the few who is legitimately worthy of being called an "artist". Her intensely unique perspective is more present than ever on her latest release, New Amerykah Part Two: Return of The Ankh.

With a diverse list of samples from Paul McCartney to Junior M.A.F.I.A., the project still remains hers from start to finish. The emotional, introspective vibe gives us a peek into the "right side" of Badu's brain, as she leans towards more personal themes than those explored in Part One.

Although Return of The Ankh is undoubtedly a fantastic release, it goes without saying that it may not be for everyone. Some listeners won't have the attention span for the longer compositions, which range in length from five to ten minutes. But for the true fans? You'll be wishing they were longer!

  1. I’m listening to the album for the third time and and its starting to grow on me or maybe its the six pack of cider thats talking. I reckon creativity should be reared, mastered but not overly done and she’s gone and lost herself.
