Album Review: Dig Your Soul Out by Oasis

Oasis Dig Your Soul Out

Maybe Noel Gallagher wasn’t so wrong after he controversially
compared Oasis to The Beatles
in the 1990’s. Ok, they may not be as talented, prolific (yet), or legendary
but their latest album shows the band is far from slowing down.

Dig Out Your Soul is full of songs you’d expect from Oasis,
but with a clear evolution. The songs aren’t afraid to use tried and tested
riffs and the simple sounds that have made Oasis what they are. But there are
differences from their first 6 studio albums.

Dig Your Soul Out is different in that the songs have a stronger individual
story and are markedly less melodic. "Falling Down" and "Bag It
Up" both have a serious
sound with less of the characteristic melodic sounds of early Oasis, but with
the same basic sound and strength. Both retain a ‘pretty’ and catchy feel while Gallagher
spouts some great lyrics.

"(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady" and "To Be Where There’s
Life" both have more alternative and unusual sounds, with the latter
borrowing from Indian Raga a La The Beatles, and both with less commercial, but
still successful and whole sound.

"The Shock of the Lightning" is classic Oasis all the way, and is
the first single off the new album. It won’t actually shock you, but it will
please and be radio friendly.

I wouldn’t say this is up to the caliber of (What’s the Story) Morning
Glory?
but it’s very good and fans and new listeners alike will be
pleased!
